The Decaying Gazebo

A lovely project to work on. A customer had a beautiful gazebo that had seen better days and asked if we could restore it to its former glory.

Starting by assessing the damage as to which parts of the gazebo could be repaired and which sections had to be replaced entirely. Firstly removing all the rotten wood until only solid sections remain. Some sections of the gazebo could be repaired with a special resin used on the small areas where the rotten wood was removed to prevent further damage.

The door was too rotten to be saved so a new door had to be made in the same style as the original. Using mortise and tenon joints on the new hardwood door, as per the original, gave it the right combination of solid yet traditionally styled.

Then came the tough job of preparing all the wood inside and out for decoration. Meaning scraping down and sanding every surface. Next, we applied primer and two coats of undercoat before glossing the entire gazebo.

The end result is a beautiful gazebo and a very happy customer.
