The Open Playhouse

We were approached by a local school to build a large playhouse that was easily supervised and fun to play in, so after various designs, we settled on an open fronted chalet style construction.

We decided it was a much more feasible project to make in kit form in our very well equipped machine shop, so off we went! So we purchased all the timber from a local builders merchant and got it delivered to our workshop.

It obviously had to be strong and hard wearing so we prepared all the timber ourselves as we have all our machines ready to go, screwed all the framework together and braced every section at either end, cladded it in prepared shiplap, made 4 windows, with Perspex, not glass for obvious reasons, dry fitted all sections together in the workshop and made all the benches to suit, rather an interesting project as it had to be built on a set of steps!

So the first day of half term off we went, with our members of our staff, the weather wasn’t promising as they forecast 70 miles an hour winds!!

Fortunately, the forecast was a little over generous with its wind speed predictions and up it all went in about 4 hrs, school ecstatic - job well done!

Fitted with custom made benches.
